Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event draws close, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
