Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

McLaren drivers in action — The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.

Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.

Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.

The Japanese slid over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.

The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.

Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.

The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
