Catherine's Yearly Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to widen access to music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
